Dim Sum @ Thomson

April 22nd, 2012 by sixpegs

Before I begin on my newfound Dim Sum haunt at Upper Thomson Road, let me show you my iPad case!
I’ve been looking around for the perfect iPad case after I bought my new toy but to no avail.
Then A and I decided, “Why not make it ourselves!”

So, here is our very own iPad case!

IMG_0073

We started out with the doing paper mache for one full night!
And to make sure the surface is not too bumpy, we sticked cardboards onto the bumpy surfaces.
And picked a fabric we like from Chinatown!

IMG_2935

IMG_2936

We also pasted a piece of magnet on one of the sides.

IMG_2937

IMG_2938

We also bought iron on alphabets! Velvety ones. I love it!

IMG_2939

IMG_2940

The insides of the case was made with oil painting paper.

IMG_2941

IMG_2943

The black elastic band can also make sure the case is snug when closed.

IMG_2942

And ironed on “P”! I know it’s crooked.
Make me very angry! Damn.

IMG_2972

We are still looking for a black tape to paste on the spine to give it an old school notebook feel.
I love our one and only iPad case! :)

A also brought me to this dim sum place at Upper Thomson Road.
According to her, this place has very high hits and ratings online so we decided to check it out!

The eating place is pretty old and run down.
But if you ask me, it does has its own charms.

IMG_2946

They serve zichar and dim sum at this place. The menu is pretty extensive!
This time round, we only had enough space in our tummies for dim sum.
The dim sum counter is pretty old school and Hong Kong style with all the food laid out for you to pick.

IMG_2948

IMG_2947

One of the highly recommended item is the duck porridge from the zichar stall!

IMG_2950

IMG_2951

Here are some of the dishes we ordered.
I swear they taste better than it looks! :D”
*mouth-watering*

IMG_2956

IMG_2954

IMG_2955

The prices are very affordable and reasonable too.
It can get pretty crowded during dinner times and this whole stretch of road got lots of other nice food too!
I’m so jealous of those people who stay around Thomson. *sulks*

After dinner, we moved on to Salted Caramel which is just a couple doors down.
A told me she wanted to bring me for some salted ice cream. Haha!
This place is pretty awesome!
They are pretty new and they had the balls to set up the store right next to Udders.
Can you imagine the confidence they have in their products? :p

[Thanks to readers Shirlynn and S, it was Udders who set up their shop next to theirs! Haha!]

We tried, and indeed, it was fantastic! They had more customers than Udders when we were there!

IMG_2960

IMG_2968

Other than ice cream, they serve other things like beverages and cakes too.

IMG_2961

IMG_2962

And my favourite, ICE CREAM!

IMG_2964

IMG_2963

The flavour I picked, Salted Caramel!

IMG_2965

The flavour is very unique, a little salty (but still sweet).
Normally caramel would be crazy sweet but this one is totally perfect!
You just need to add another 50 cents for an ice cream cone.

IMG_2969

If you like their ice cream, you can do takeaways too!
Their takeaway packs are so cute!

Will be back to bring you more nice hideouts and interesting stuff!
Have a good week ahead friends :)

Old School Delights

April 7th, 2012 by sixpegs

I have heard a lot about Old School Delights!
Every time we drive by Upper Thomson Road, A would say “Hey wanna go Old School Delights?”
Hahaha! And yes, we finally made our way there earlier this week.

IMG_2442

I have to say that this place put a smile on my face as soon as I stepped into the cafe.
There are lots of stuff that reminds me of my childhood days!
Here are some pictures to give you a virtual tour of the place if you haven’t been there before!

I LOVE that huge blackboards!
I want to have a HUGE blackboard in my future home too! :D

There are toys and other stuff on sale.
Also a lot of old books that you can read or browse through when you’re having a meal.
This is a perfect place to have lunch alone because there are so many things around to keep you occupied.

They serve cakes, and other Asian food like Mee Siam, Macaroni Soup with Shredded Chicken, etc.
I like how we can write our orders down on a little whiteboard. Heh!

IMG_2443

IMG_2444

I had the macaroni and also tried their drumlets.
Good stuff!
OH! The Milo Dinosaur was awesome too! :)

IMG_2466

IMG_2467

Feel a bit like tuckshop food. Heh!

There is a little “toy box” on every table that contains toys to keep you entertained while waiting for your food too.
Ours had five stones, erasers and a deck of Donkey cards.
I MISS THOSE ERASERS!!
I remember going to the school bookshop to buy those erasers when I was in Primary School. :p

IMG_2445

IMG_2447

IMG_2448

IMG_2469

There are cakes and other old school biscuits you can grab and go too!

Take a look at the cute little trinkets they sell in there!
Makes me feel like the kid who is always hanging around outside the bookshop again. :p

It is 清明节 again.
My family and I gathered at Bright Hill early Thursday morning.
This year is a little different because Granny is no longer with us this year.
It is the first time I see Granny’s urn next to Grandpa’s. :(

This time round, after paying respects to my grandparents,
I followed my aunts and Mom to tour around the entire temple grounds and checked out the various temples.
This place is actually a really gorgeous place!
I hate that there is so many people at this time of the year though.

On our way there, my Mom and I were complaining about the traffic jam and crowds.
It was then when the taxi driver said something very interesting.
“This place is home to tens of thousands of people!”
“It is like Chinese New Year to them today!”

Hahahaha. True that.
I shall not complain.

IMG_2438

IMG_2439

IMG_2440

I went to one of the shop there that sells all kinds of Buddhist stuff.
And guess what? I bought this! Hahaha.
I told A that I paid $18 for this and she laughed at me. :(
I thought it’s really pretty. *sulks*

IMG_2472

The following morning, A and I were tasked to head to the wet market at Toa Payoh to get stuff for her Mom.
It has been AGES since I last went to a wet market!
And it really reminds me of the days when Granny would bring me to the markets in the morning. :)

This is our 7am face.

IMG_2477

She brought me to Lorong 7 for some kickass breakfast! YUMMY!

IMG_2474

IMG_2476

Random. And I saw this signboard.
KNS Indian Muslim Food. Hahahaha!
Why oh why do people name their stores KNS? Why.

The skin on Boo’s ears is red and dry lately.
There is a funky smell too.
So we brought her to the vet at The Animal Clinic since the meds from Mt Pleasant didn’t really work.
I think I’m going to bring Boo to The Animal Clinic from now on.
The advice and service I get from the former is so much better! Hmm.

Here is the adorable Boo in the car, still oblivious about where she’s going.
Ahem.
So cute!

And my favourite photo – the 80km/h face.
HAHAHAHA!
[Please ignore my blank face]

IMG_2486

Boo has yeast infection in her ears and is on medication. :(
Hope she gets well soon!

And after complaining to The Cambridge Satchel, my bloody happy-looking batchel is finally here!
I love the embossing and I’m so glad I got the embossing done. Wee!

I also gave my bag a moustache!
NOW IT LOOKS LIKE MY BAG! :D

IMG_2558

Gave A’s bag a bow tie too. Hahaha!

But this time round, we met up with the winners from the recent SIXPEGS Giveaway!
