YES I permed my hair again!
I am loving this new perm.
It was more than a year ago when I last had a perm.
Back then, my friends would call me Cupid because of the damn hair.
HAHAHA!
Some said I look like some random Korean boy band boys.
HECK IT. I think I love it!
I cut off those curls about few months after I permed,
but this time round, I am determined to keep the curls for at least another 2 to 3 haircuts!

IMG_1938

As if like an addiction, A and I checked out another cafe.
This time round, it was at Yong Siak Street and I knew of this place through a couple forums and through Ladyironchef!
It is quite a small place and I think food is rather overpriced.
Nevertheless, quite a nice place and I think my Black Truffles Mushroom sandwich was awesome.
Coffee was good too.

I never knew Yong Siak Street is such a happening place.
SO many cute stuff here, I really love the place!

A had her Ham and Cheese sandwich, mine was Black Truffles Mushroom.
YUMMY!
Food was served on old-school looking plates. Heh!

I really like how they serve the water in these bottles.
Look like poison. Hahaha.

Across the street from Forty Hands, you can see other nice cafes, restaurants and shops
like Open Door Policy, Books Actually, Social Haus, just to name a few.

IMG_1962

IMG_1963

But what caught my attention was the famous Books Actually.
I’ve heard the name of this bookstore so many times but have yet to checked it out.
I have to say, I SERIOUSLY DIG THIS PLACE!
It is SO adorable and everything from the decor to the stuff they have in there to their choice of music was awesome!
I went trigger-happy the moment I stepped in there.
Here is a little virtual tour!

The front of the store has mostly books, stationery, notebooks and other little stuff.
But there is a door at the side that leads you to the back of the main store area.
That place is a little treasure trove!

I love these vintage looking suitcases.
Not very expensive too, $150 for the smallest one.
I was super tempted to get one there and then.
But managed to curb myself. *proud*

If you have been following me for the last few entries, you probably know A has 3 cats.
Just couple days ago, the 3 cats had a pretty little visitor!
A’s neighbor found a stray cat and they took the cat in.
But I think the cat probably ran out of the house and sneaked into A’s house few days ago.
After a little panic attack, they returned the cat to their neighbor and
learnt that they are actually going to put the lost cat up for adoption soon.

It is a pretty little Persian cat and she is SO SO SO tame.
I’ve never seen a cat that didn’t even flinch when we bathed her.
And when we pushed it further by whipping out the hairdryer to dry her, she was ok with it too!

She is such a lovely pet. :(
If you should know anyone who has recently lost a Persian cat, please let me know!

That aside, we brought the little lady up to A’s room to meet the cats and also gave her a nice warm bath.
She is such a beauty.

I also want to take the chance to say a big THANK YOU to Two Happy Flowers!
I love the polaroid album and it’s damn cute because the color of the front cover can be changed between pink and grey.
Cuteness. My polaroids are all happier now. Heh!

I will be back with more interesting cafes to share with you guys!

Papa Palheta

March 15th, 2012 by sixpegs

I think I am addicted to checking out new cafes and pretty chill-out places.
So here is another one to add to your ‘MUST GO’ cafes!

IMG_1718

IMG_1808

IMG_1719

And indeed, the ‘most important drink of your day’ is probably your cuppa coffee.

A’s friend brought us to this cute little cafe couple days back and we were blown away!
Tucked in a little corner along Bukit Timah Road, it’s like a breath of fresh air the moment you lay eyes on this place.
It is quite hidden so it’s not visible from the main roads, but hey, that also means that it’s quieter and more peaceful in here!

IMG_1722

This place has a strange aura that makes it really welcoming.
The people round here are all really friendly and smiley!
According to A, a seasoned coffee drinker, the coffee served here are really good.
From what I gathered, the coffee beans used at Papa Palheta are all roasted right there in the cafe!

There is a special room where all the roasting takes place.
The roasting takes place every Monday, so the cafe will be closed for that day of the week.
But for the rest of the week, they will be serving freshly brewed coffee from 9am to 6pm on weekdays & 9am to 7.30pm on weekends.
Here’s a picture of the roasting room.

IMG_1730

IMG_1736

Ok, that is still not the most unique part of this place.
Get this.
There is actually no proper menu for the coffee.
And there isn’t a fixed price for the coffee.
So in a way, the coffee is free!
All you need to do is just to tip the barista for the lovely coffee he/she made you.
Isn’t it awesome?

The place is pretty spacious but the number of tables are kind of limited.
Only about 2 to 3 tables at their outdoor area, and another 2 to 3 more indoors.
There are a couple bar seats though.
There seems to be another level above the main brewing area, but I’m not sure if it’s opened for public.
Oh! And yes, you can take away these ‘FREE’ coffees.

Here is a tour around the place, it’s really pretty and cute stuff to look at all around!

A and I also watched Death Cab For Cutie’s concert at Fort Canning Park.

Screen shot 2012-03-15 at AM 12.18.56

They were here to promote their latest album ‘Codes and Keys’ but I’m glad they also did many of their old songs.
To be honest, I am not a huge fan of theirs but for that 6 Death Cab songs I know, I have to agree that they’re pretty awesome.
Never knew how on earth they looked like until the day of the concert too.
No, actually, I still didn’t know how they look like during the concert
because they were all 10cm tall from where I was standing.
But that said, I REALLY ENJOYED THE CONCERT!
I am glad I wasn’t standing too near the stage too because it was so packed!
I would have fainted if I was standing in the first 10 rows of people.
Hahahaha.
I am really unfit like that!

Warning.
The following couple photos will probably all look the same to you.

IMG_1674

IMG_1673

I was quite disappointed to see the picture of the lead singer after Googling.
I thought he looked quite cute from 50m away. *urps*

They started the concert with “A Lack of Color” and ended it with “Transatlanticism”.
I’m really glad they did the latter because A was dying and itching to hear that song.
She was THRILLED when they wrapped up the concert with that song. Hahaha!

Ok, here is another bad quality taken-with-phone photo for you.

IMG_1663

Death Cab weeeee!

IMG_1690

This couple days has been colourful for me!
Other than my crazy looking multi-coloured nails, I also receive a pretty Prada card case from My Secret Attic.
If you love to pamper yourself with pretty buys too, do check them out!

I really love how the parcel was packaged and it comes with everything including the box and a paper bag.
Nice touch!
Thanks to Jacqueline from The Secret Attic for throwing in the sheet masks for Aileen and I too.

To end off this post, I would like to boast about how awesome A is at the app that has taken Singapore by storm.
I guess it’s not hard to guess what this is if someone drew that for you in ‘Draw Something’? :p

IMG_1619

Isn’t she awesome? Heh!
I hope she wasn’t pissed when I teased her saying that it looks like Ho Chi Minh.
HAHAHAHA.

Heh! Goodnight folks!

Chill Out.

March 10th, 2012 by sixpegs

I don’t know about you, but I am one of those few Singaporeans who are quite not-cool when it comes
to being informed about the new hip cafes or restaurants in town.
Most of the time, I’m normally the one being brought around to check out new places.
And I wish to change that! Hahaha.

I visited two new places, one was recommended by an Instagram follower and the other was recommended by a friend.
Absolutely loved this two new places because I’m such a big sucker for cute decor.
Hope you will like them too!

When I first heard that it is ALL the way in the East at Loyang area, I was quite turned off.
But I guess being far away from the bustling city makes this place more attractive!
I liked the place the moment I saw it.
Quiet, quaint and the decor is pretty but not over the top.

Like these:

IMG_1769

IMG_1770

IMG_1772

There are many interesting things to look at and it almost didn’t feel like a cafe at all.
If you have a thing for old stuff, you would definitely love this place.
There are also many small little things that are for sale over here,
old school CASIO watches, polaroid films, accessories, etc.

IMG_1773

IMG_1781

IMG_1782

IMG_1783

The place is HUGE and spacious.
The servers are all very friendly and smiley, really nice.
Toilets are clean. (Ok that’s a very auntie statement but we all have to agree that it’s very important)

IMG_1778

The food shouldn’t be too bad too.
I only had beer and chicken wings there (the wings were good!)
but I heard that this place is under the same management as CMPB in Dempsey.
So I guess the food can’t be that bad.

We picked a seat outside and we loved it.
Quiet and peaceful. Heh!
Might have some mosquito problem though, but do feel free to ask for mosquito coils from the staff.
Hahaha.

IMG_1779

IMG_1777

IMG_1780

We sat there from 5pm to 11pm.
It was awesome.

This other place I went to was introduced by Instagram follower @dropletslove.
BIG THANKS for the recommendation!
The place is just a 5 to 10 mins walk away from A’s house and we were thrilled to discover another nearby chillout place.

The ceiling is made of glass but the place is still very cooling.

I got a new tattoo, folks!
This time round, it was a new one on the wrist and I’m loving how it looks!
Malvin from Primitive Arts at Far East Plaza did it for me.
I think there is still some touching up that needs to be done.
Shall wait for 3 weeks before I head back to fix it.

These were some of the fonts I considered before getting the tattoo.
Wanted to pick the 4th font, but the artist said that the tattoo needs to be much bigger to be able to show all the details.
So, nope. Bleah.

Screen shot 2012-03-04 at PM 09.48.53

IMG_1455

IMG_1454

So I picked the 3rd font instead.
This motto (or rather, phrase) came with the necklace A and I bought together.
I love how the phrase sounded and meant.

The tattoo artist tattooed the “q” as a “g”. Faints.
Need to go back after 3 weeks to alter that part. Bleah!
Other than that, I really love the new ink

On a sidenote, I think my hair is finally gradually growing longer!
I know it’s still super short as of now.
Do you know that I haven’t had a haircut for 5 months already? Hahahaha.
I think the previous haircut was really a little TOO short. :x
Shall not have such short hair again in the near future because I think I look more normal in dresses with more hair.
Heh!

Skincare & I

February 19th, 2012 by sixpegs

I received a couple requests in comments and through the chat box for me to do up an entry about my skincare regime.
So here it is, me and many horrible [never seen before] pictures of me with horrible skin.
I think I have had a long battle with pimples, pimple scars and dull looking skin.
With that, I would like to say that I am really not someone born with fabulous skin.
At many times, it was makeup or just good photography that helped concealed my flaws.

Today, I’m gonna show you some scary photos of myself.
Hopefully, you would still read my website after you’re done with this entry! Hahaha.

Screen shot 2012-02-19 at PM 07.51.58
AI18074

Alright, to be fair, I think I was born with average skin.
Occasional pimples, dull areas around the nose & mouth and dark eye rings (what else)? Bleah.
But to make things worse, the modelling and mad craze for new and many cosmetics and makeup products made my skin worse.
And I think my worst nemesis was liquid foundation.
No offence to anyone who swears by liquid foundation, because I used to be such a big fan of liquid foundation!
They can make my skin look FLAWLESS!
And because I was often out in the past, working and stuff, I had liquid foundation on every single day.
What made things worse was the clubbing and late nights.
And on nights when I’m too tired or drunk to clean my face properly, I sleep with my makeup on.

CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT GROSSNESS!

Hahaha.
Ok, before I start on anything, I wanna say how it’s a MAJOR NO-NO to sleep
with makeup on because it’s really dirty and bad for your skin.

This is how I look like around 2 to 3 years ago.

CIMG0603

The skin looks freaking awesome right?
Well, that’s because I had heavy makeup on and they pretty much covered all the scars and tiny zits I had.
If you were given the choice to zoom in to every picture on my website, heh, it would look something like that:

Screen shot 2012-02-19 at PM 07.45.41

I always had problems with pimples.
Most of them are small ones, but they are freaking annoying because they constantly pop up at the same area.
It started with the forehead and chin, then they slowly invaded onto my cheeks.
And after they left, they would give me a parting gift each – scars!

Thick makeup – my nemesis.

IMG_0031

And beneath all that makeup, my skin pretty much looks like this all the time.
Very shocking indeed.

IMG_0300

I was devastated and tried all means and ways to improve my skin.
Tried facials and peels and more but they didn’t do much help.
But there was this one clinic I went to that did help my skin quite a bit.
I believe some of you might have heard of them before because they are pretty popular and famous for their skin doctor.
It’s just a humble looking clinic in Hougang called Punggol Clinic, near SRJC.
I went there twice and was given their facial wash to try.
It was a light blue liquid when I tried it that time, it was pretty strong so you need to dilute it before you use it.
For anyone who might be interested, they are located at Blk 23 Hougang Ave 3 #01-283.
You can call them at 6280 2585 to find out more or to make appointments.

Here is another picture without makeup when the skin is gradually getting better.

IMG_0428

But that aside, I think the best way to get good skin is to have clean skin and a good diet and sleeping habit.
Well, I don’t exactly have the best sleeping habits, to be honest.
But I guess drinking lots of water is helpful for keeping one’s system clean.

I quit using liquid foundation after all the bad skin episode, and only used 2-way cakes.
After I met A, I have also quit using 2-way cakes.
I think that was the best decision of my life!
My skin has never felt better.
I know how makeup can help to cover up our scars and all, but it will also tire your skin out sometimes.
So if you need to put on some makeup for work and stuff, remember to cleanse your skin thoroughly at night.
And also to let your skin have a rest every once in a while.

As for skincare, I alternate between various serums and essences.
I like the whitening serum from Chanel and I think it is quite useful for lightening scars.
When you shop for whitening serums, do check with the sales assistants because not all are useful for scars.
Some are more targeted at pigmentations – discolourations, freckles and stuff.
So it would always be helpful and assuring to ask more questions before you make your purchases.

I also love Laneige’s Waterbank hydrating essence.
Some other products I swear by is the exfoliating wash from Clinique, SKII Facial Treatment Essence & SKIN INC Sleeping Mask.

Screen shot 2012-02-19 at PM 08.43.40

A has very sensitive skin so when she use slightly “stronger” products, she will get rashes on her skin.
But SKII Essence and the sleeping mask on SKIN INC worked magic on her, with no side effects.
So I reckon these products would be great for people with sensitive skin too.
For those who haven’t tried SKIN INC before, it’s highly recommended!
They have a shop front in ION Orchard.
The sleeping mask and peel is pretty awesome! :)

I hardly put on heavy makeup now.
And when I do, it would only be concealer for the undereye area, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and sometimes lipstick.

IMG_6666

SORRY! Look a bit like ah siao in that photo on top. Hahahaha!

Makeup goes on the skin much easier when you have better skin too!
Here is how I look like most of the time when I’m out.
Only concealer and loose powder can make you look refreshed and great too!

Screen shot 2012-02-19 at PM 08.42.41

P1012531

I still have occasional pimples but they go down even before they surface fully now.
Hydration and keeping your face clean is the key to having clear skin!
And of course, weekly exfoliation would do good for your skin too.

This is how I look without makeup now.
I have gotten so used to having less makeup now that I will cringe when I see my older photos with heavy makeup. Heh.
With makeup, less is ALWAYS more.

May good skin always be with you girls too! :)
