CamQueen of The Year

October 21st, 2010 by sixpegs

I’m aware that I just did an entry about the items you can find in my makeup pouch.
I’m all for makeup and I LURVE shopping for cosmetics.
But what you’re going to see today, is when makeup makes you go slightly gaga.

1

A couple days ago, my boss shared with me a link showing the Before & After Makeup pictures of girls
who are crazily obsessed with makeup.
What can I say? It’s really insane and I swear I cannot believe my eyes anymore.
What happened to being “au nature”?

This post is not only a wake-up call to all ladies,
it is also an entry to reach out to all the male readers at my blog.
You cannot trust your eyes anymore. Hahaha!

I thought makeup is just supposed to enhance one’s features.
Since when is makeup supposed to change how a person look?!
(The Ris Low one really freaked me out quite a bit)

Looking at all these photos also reminded me of this contest called CamQueen of the Year.
It’s basically just a beauty contest actually.
It’s rather entertaining to look at the contestants though because some are really pretty deluded. :x
Well sorry for being mean, but the girls in there are just giving the rest of the world
the impression that us girls are shallow and plain dumb.

Check this video out and you will totally know what I mean.

I mean, it’s absolutely okay to use cosmetics to make yourself beautiful.
To be honest, I love dolling myself up as well!
But that said, I always think that natural beauty will definitely be the way to go
and I have more respect for ladies who dare to walk out of their house
with just a little powder and mascara!

It’s been a few years since I started modelling, and all these while I’ve always been a fan of simple and sheer makeup!
Makeup is AWESOME. But always remember the golden rule “LESS IS MORE!”

It’s not because I think thick makeup is a disaster. But why let the makeup cover up your natural glow?
Use makeup to accentuate your features instead of changing the way you look! :)

8
9

Be comfortable in your own skin. Even when you’re without a single trace of makeup!

010

Stop scaring your boyfriends when you remove your makeup and
learn to be comfortable just the way you are.
Everyone is beautiful.
Instead of covering up all the flaws with makeup (and making your pimples worse),
why not work on having a good skincare regime that
will eventually give you the glow that you’ve been looking for? :)

Love makeup but love your skin more! Strike the delicate balance! <3

i prefer girls w little makeup to totally no makeup
or too overly done. hahaha! that photo of ris low is really a little freaky.=X

anw your skin is so good! of cos you could go makeup-less. haha! and do update more! missed your posts so much!

  2. sixpegs Says:

huishan – yups! I think light makeup is awesome. A good and sheer makeup can immediately make a person look more fresh and awake. But just need to know where the fine line between good and over-the-top makeup. :)

  3. bern Says:

ohyes, everyone should learn this….. it’s really a common sight to see girls slap on so much foundation and when they go for sleepovers and chalets, they look horrid with all that makeup off. love your skin… because before you even realise it, you’ll look great without so much makeup, hor? :) great post pegs!

  4. Janis Says:

But it is easy for you to say since you always have people telling ypu how pretty u are etc. What about those who does not have good features and probably need tons of make up to play it up?

I know confidence is the key, but i have been battling acne for the longest time and when i dont put makeup or cover up, people will laugh and criticise.

    Just my 2 cents.

  5. sixpegs Says:

    bern – thanks!

Janis – See a doctor to treat the acne. I used to have horrible skin also, and the more makeup I put on it, it just gets worse. I went to a skin doctor previously also! Mine was at Punggol and he’s really quite good. I’m not saying you shouldn’t put makeup at all. To be honest, I feel the lack of confidence when I don’t have makeup on also. But less is really more. I try to put less makeup (eg, just concealer and try to skip the foundation, etc) and gradually you’ll get used to it. Your skin will improve also.

  6. JH Says:

I can’t agree more. My skin improves after I skipped my foundation. I just put on concealor and loose powder for everyday. Thicker make up only for special occasions like dinner/ festivals. But I also have to agree that because peggy you already have nice features thus you don’t need much make up. But unfortunately this doesn’t apply to everyone.

  7. janis Says:

Peg, I have seen at least 5 doctors in different stages in my life but I am still battling it. It comes and go. :(

  8. ruth Says:

i’ll freely agree that girls with natural makeup look better than those who overdo it. but i believe make up is part of one’s style – which is an expression of one’s individuality. so for those girls who feel that their personality is maybe more kawaii or more goth etc, adapt their makeup to suit that part of their personality too!

of course, knowing how to apply it well is of key importance. i loovee the colour & definition of your lips in your first photo btw (:

  9. mecc Says:

Janis is right. For girls who are blessed with smooth and radiant skin, it’s so easy to say ‘less is more’, since they do really have the qualities to flaunt their good looks. What if you were an average-looking girl with oily acne-prone skin? Will you still go with the belief that ‘natural is best’? I think it’s a breeze to make statements like that, until it happens to yourself (i.e wake up one day to find that your skin condition has turned completely horrendous).

  10. Chloe Says:

your skin looks so flawless!! i have mild acne that pops out like once a month. even expensive skincare products and minimum makeup (loose powder + eyeliner/shawdow) can’t keep my face flawless for more than a month. mind sharing your current skincare regime?

  11. sixpegs Says:

mecc – If I were to wake up one day with horrible skin, the first thought on my mind is not to cover them with makeup but to go see a doctor! And it’s not like I’ve not been through that before (you can ask my close girlfriends) I’ve got some pretty nasty bad skin days before. But I still think an average looking girl will still look nicer as an average looking girl-next-door instead of trying to make herself look super different with lots and lots of makeup. There’s nothing wrong with being average looking. I am also average looking. Don’t compare and say I got nicer eyes or she got smaller nose. You know very well us girls will never be satisfied. There will always be another prettier girl. So, just live with what we have!

I wish I had smaller nose and bigger boobs too. But do you see me shading my nose bridge or shading my cleavage? No.

chloe – the picture is just taken during my good skin days. plus resolution is not super high. lol. I use mainly laneige products. it works for me. :)

ruth – thanks ruth. i agree too, that makeup is a way of expressing oneself. but one really need to constantly remind oneself never to go too “kiasu” with makeup. heh.

janis – I’m really sorry to hear that. i have a friend who had been troubled by skin problems also. she took oral medication and it got better already. Have you tried that?

  12. joanne Says:

hey peggy do you mind sharing with us in a post about your skin care regime from you wake up – to every single make up steps you do in the morning for work – to steps on removing it and before sleep regime. plus all the weekly regime. (hope its not too much)
i would love to have a natural look that look presentable too. but I can’t seems to get it right. Would really appreciate if you can share. :)

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

  13. Niki Says:

I can’t agree more, that is why I hardly put on make up. Just slap on some sun screen and moisturiser is good enough for me :D

  14. sinsin Says:

yup i can vouch for pegs.

she did had her fair share of bad skin days. i remember it was the period after you were in newface or msu. cant rmber which. subsequently she did put on very little makeup, just bare the zits and acne and yep, one way or another tha did help and her skin gradually recovered.

    Goodnight baby!

  15. Mecc Says:

Peggy, you’re more than just average-looking! Very pretty to me in fact! :)

  16. anne Says:

adeline – thanks girl! and yes that punggol clinic is the one i went to. their facial wash is like sibeh power lor. it’s in this scary looking medicine bottle but I remember it was really good. some blue solution. my skin improved tremendously after that clinic also.

  20. Kate Says:

hi Pegs, love your entry. and totally agree with you! less is more. i think covering blemishes with make up and over doing it is a big big difference. i think overly done up eye make up is a no no too.

anyway, love ur blog and i always find myself looking for previous entries esp on travel etc. but i do haf an issue, i have to flip back too many times to find sth i wanna re-read again lol. is there a possibility u can add a search bar?

    thanks!

  21. dianne Says:

hey peggy, this entry is awesomeee pawsome!!!
I have bad skin but I don’t put on heavy makeup as I feel it will make me look worse, ie cakey and fake looking.

you look great w/o makeup anyway!

  22. sixpegs Says:

Kate – thanks for loving the entry! and there you go, a SEARCH button for you! :) the travel entries are all in “Favourites” also actually.!

dianne – good for you! hope good skin will love us and stay with us for a long time! :p
