お元気ですか?

April 20th, 2010 by sixpegs

YES YES YES.
Buttons & I just booked our tickets to visit Tokyo, Japan!
I am SO thrilled because it’s my first time there and I cannot wait to get my ass there.
It’s Tokyo HELLO! I love it.
I have given myself 10 missions to fulfill when I’m there.
I really cannot wait to go there. ♥

I have always loved Couchsurfing.
And this time round, I want to meet the locals in Japan too.
Get them to bring us around and hopefully get to see how a Japanese home look like,
and eat a homecooked Japanese meal!

I want to go to Sanrio Land and give Miss Kitty a big fat hug!
And My Melody. And Cinnamaroll!

Alright maybe not as crazy as this.
But HEY! It’s Japan and I can still look normal wearing something crazy and out-of-this-world!
I’m gonna pack all of my weird clothes there.

Okay this looks way scarier than the UK Subway map.
I promise to try my best.

I heard even the food from streetside stalls are fabulous!
I want to eat like a mad woman there. Muahahaha.

Nuff’ said.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please read here.

Gonna have great fun there with my DSLR baby. ♥

It’s the first time we’re celebrating his birthday overseas.
Exciting. Exciting. Exciting. I cannot wait baby! :D

The hotel tt i recommended has a direct view of mt fuji right from their hot spring!! Hehe, but its rather ex, abt $700 sing per night!! Oh ya, if u wanna save $, check out ueno touganeya hotel! Super convenient location!!

  6. Renee Says:

  13. paw Says:

i agreed! take a trip out to hakone! romance train direct to hakone from shinjuku. very very different feel from tokyo. will be good constrast. u can go for the hot springs…some ryokans offer day use so u don’t need to stay overnight if u dont want to. but would be nice to stay a night in the ryokan there.

most hot springs are separated by gender…so u and buttons will be separated. keke it will be a really special experience! going in there all naked and seeing other women naked…gees some places offer private tubs with rooms for the shy ones…

there’s a really nice open air musuem in hakone and the outlet shopping as well…super huge places with outlet labels…but higher end shopping…

so yap…i would also suggest including hakone in ur trip =)

  14. onefourever Says:

    xxsh@nxx

  18. sixpegs Says:

    thanks so much guys!

vivien, rachel – the fonts are from polyvore.com. i think i’ll never want to answer this question again because i’ve answered it so many times. so you girls, bookmark polyvore.com okay? :)

paw – wow sounds really interesting. is it like the equivalent of 北投 in 台北? I’d really love to visit the hot springs! I love seeing naked girls. LOL! the girls in korean hotsprings are super chio (good skin and all) but those in taiwan are mostly aunties. lol! I hope those in japan are chiobus too. hahahahahah!! oh and what are ryokans? hot spring hotels? or what? and the train ride to hakone, do i have to take the JR pass kinda train or the normal subway train?

shan – wow spend so much to go in, i better spend more time in there to play w hello kitty. lol! wow S$60+ is a bit ex leh. japan is an expensive city indeed.

  19. reader Says:

    hi peg

i visit ur blog occasionally..n im also travelling to japan during that period..from 4/6 till 13/6! but my main focus this time round is more on hokkaido..its my third visit to japan n i realli love the cntry! the JR/subway line looks complex at first glance.but its actually ok.juz need proper planning!

    have fun!

  20. reader Says:

oh ya, if u are on budget, u can try this hostel called house of ikebukuro.its located near town, cosy n very clean place to stay in.the owner of the hostel is a taiwanese so no communication issue! u can also buy the JR pass (includes narita express to and fro airport, bullet train and all JR lines train n bus)to save ur transport fee as the transport in japan is really quite EX!

  21. Jenny Says:

oh hoho..I like the part of loking” outrageous”..yes pls do it in Japan..cos we cant do it in Sing…..hahah..have fun sweetie

  22. sixpegs Says:

hey! i checked out house of ikebukuro. looks pretty decent.
but the bathroom is a shared one right? is it okay like that?
    and how’s the location also?
any reviews for sakura hotel? it’s in the same area also.

  23. Bella Says:

pegs, u’ll love Japan!! i chose to stay at Sutton for most of my own visits. take a look & see if u like it. i hv tried the various locations (shinjuku, ueno & gotanda. email me if u need other info.

    http://www.thehotel.co.jp/en/sutton_ueno/

  24. xxsh@nxx Says:

u won’t get to see hello kitty and friends walking around all e time…very much like disney…they only come out at certain timings….and all the shows are in jap….if i’m not wrong…e cinnamoroll one is e only one wif english subs….so u’ll jus be staring at their cute-ness without knowing wat they are saying/ singing. Anyway, Sunshine City Prince Hotel is not bad. Ark Hotel isn’t bad too. If you stay in Ikebukuro area, there’s no fear of getting hungry. Telling you about it makes me miss Japan. If you want, you can check out my entries on 10 Days In Japan:)))

Pls go to Meiji Jingu on sundays!! Loads of wedding ceremonies:)))

    xxsh@nxx

  25. sixpegs Says:

    wah so pretty!!! overbudget. :c

  26. xxsh@nxx Says:

WARNING: you’ll be spending quite alot on train tickets. Train station can be alittle confusing with the many exits and many lines. Take note of where the trains are heading to because at times 2 different trains can be sharing the same track. Mum and I ended up in a ‘bullet train’ instead of e usual kind. Luckily the train conductor was nice enough to let us off at the next stop without charging us.

    xxsh@nxx

  27. Bella Says:

for sutton, a superior single room is for 2 pax and it cost 11,000yen which is around $163sgd :)

  28. sixpegs Says:

I think we just wanna spend around $120 maximum per room per night.
I’m looking at this few, help me see which is the cream of the crap leh. Haha!
Which one got better location, more value for money etc.
I see the Japan subway map until headache already.

    $120 or below.

  29. sab Says:

good luck to you for couchsurfing! will you be surfing or just meeting people? in any case it’s gonna be really exciting! remember to bring over some souvenirs for your hosts (i usually bring SG postcards and write a note. there are nice ones you can get from the touristy shop at the former le meridien hotel!)

  30. Bella Says:

*pull hair!!!! my 3rd attempt posting the following…

    1. get a suica & n’ex package. suica is similar to our ezlink. n’ex is for yr arrival & departure from airport, which u’ll be needing it.
    http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/suica-nex/

    2. for yr accommodation, just choose with JR Yamanote Line (green line) this will also the line u’ll be using most of the time to go to shopping areas.
    http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/info/map_a4ol.pdf

    1) sakura – heard gd reviews. i wld go for this.
    2) Shinjuku New City Hotel provides free shuttle to/from JR Shinjuku Station.
    http://www.newcityhotel.co.jp/eng/access/
    3) Tokyo House Ikebukuro looks fine to me too.

impt note: expect lots of walking even within the station itself as most station comes with tonnes of exits! so even if the hotel says they are within walking distance, it can still be far when u factor in the getting out of the station. make sure u note the correct exit to get out to the hotel. best to carry backpack as most stations are old & with stairs! so imageine lugging the trolly luggage up & down the stairs, especially on yr last day (which is the heaviest :P)

  31. sixpegs Says:

thank you bella. you’re SO HELPFUL! THANKS THANKS!!
Okay okay, I’ll do more research meanwhile as well! Thanks so much. You girls are damn guru. Hahahaha.

  32. Bella Says:

take a look at the following backpackers hotels. decent & clean. however, they will not be as accessible. but who cares if u’re doing a laid back trip. u save a lot & can spend on shopping ;P

thanks so much for the links, bella. you (and the other girls) have been a great, great help! :)
i’ll check out these links you gave me!

  34. Eileen Says:

Hey Peggy! I just came back from Tokyo last week! You will definitely have alot to discover there, just like me! Remember to head to Harajuku for F21 and H&M if you like. Super cheap! Agnes B is cheap there too! At least 30-40% cheaper! :)

  35. sixpegs Says:

WAHHHH Agnes B is cheap there ah! Shioky pie! 30% – 40% cheaper is a lot man!! I’ll be on a retail ban before my Japan trip! :D :D :D
How much did you bring to spend? And for how many days? :p

  36. reader Says:

hi peg, for house of ikebukuro, there also have private bathroom too! but its slightly more ex.for the shared bathroom, its also fine coz its quite clean.there also have pc n free internet access there.room is a bit small (typical japanese style pattern) but quite cosy. as for location, its less than 10mins walk and alot of eatery, malls, convenience shops around the place.

narita express from the airport stops at ikebukuro as well.takes around 90mins to the airport using narita express.few stops away from shibuya, harajuku, shinjuku.

have fun researching!u will love japan..hee

  37. sixpegs Says:

thanks reader! :) but the house of ikekuburo rooms are all fully booked already. damn popular lah. :c

  38. Hippo Says:

Ikebukuro is LOVEEE!! A very convenient place to stay at! And near to shibuya, shinjuku, harajuku :)))

Anyway, try Toyoko Inn – they have 2 branches at ikebukuro!

  39. reader Says:

peg, no prob!!ooo.ya.its quite popular.i rem booking it 3mths in adv!gosh.nvm, u can try other hostel around ikebukuro too!i second what hippo says. heard gd review about toyoko inn too. sunshine city prince hotel is pretty gd too.got limo bus that stops near there to and fro the airport.

  40. emi Says:

    HAHA THAT MAN!

anyways, the subway is not as complex. you will be able to figure out quite easily!

pls try the onsen *bliss and 9 days in tokyo might be a bit too long so hop on the train to other cities!!!

  41. Janice Says:

wow babe! feel da excitement for ya coz I’d be going a wk b4 u!! how much is yr cost eg flight thus far? I’ve been researching till headache (literally) trying to get the best deals for all. M still sourcing for day trips to Hakone (i think that would save me the trouble of figuring out how to get around). Anyway, just to share, i’ve booked Sunroute Plaza @ Shinjuku (recommended by many n fm the pix they look decent) for my stay at Tokyo and Senkei Yamagaso for my one nite stay at Hakone (can afford only a nite coz the better ryokans r damn ex!)…anyway, can’t wait to go shopping manz!

Hey, if u have any MUST go places/ must buys, do share k. M trying to research n figure out the transportation still. URGH

PS: If u r looking for hostels in Tokyo, I chanced upon this hostel called N.U.T.s. It has a rm with attached bathrm n it looks like hotel rather than a hostel (@ hostel prices of coz)..if u google it, i’m sure u’d find it. :)

  42. tehbing Says:

think most of the time u will travel by the central loop of the subway called Yamanote line. it goes to all the most common and awesome places like Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Ikebukuro and others. there is a station called Shimbashi where u can transfer to a Yurikamome line that goes to Odaiba, its a great place for shopping and its very romantic at night, famous for the rainbow bridge. i did all my research at http://www.japan-guide.com go there take a look, solved 99% of my questions! =D food is totally fantastic especially at humble looking ramen shops ^.^

  43. Gwen Says:

ah, haven’t been leaving comments. anyway, yes, retail ban, retail cold turkey in sg before u head to japan. honestly, things aren’t that expensive, really. I mean, you get quirky japanese imported goods at prices few notches up here; Sanrio items are more expensive here (grab Kitty stuff there, way cheaper than sg). You’ll never look at Sakae Sushi the same way again after you’ve tasted 100 yen sushi on the conveyor belt / grab 600 yen ten-don along with refillable o-cha / slurp 900 yen authentic ramen with coupons from slot machines. Ikebukuro is really a great place to stay at! Very convenient and it’s a huge shopping area itself. I stayed at Sunshine City Prince, service was good IMO. And I assure you transport is not that tough. You can see the railway everywhere. Just takes a while to figure out, even if you hope onto the wrong line, you can get back on the right way w/o much difficulties. Remember to check out Odaiba / Tokyo Towers since you’re there with bf. and yes, pack all the various jap goodies back. Cheap at the airport (1000 yen each), so don’t bother buying before coming home. =D you make me all excited again!

  44. sixpegs Says:

WOW thanks all for ALLL the information!!!

  45. Eileen Says:

I only spent $1K in Tokyo which is really little! Uniqlo and Muji are really cheap too! Btw, I stayed in Sunshine City Price Hotel in Ikebukuro. It’s pretty good with a huge shopping centre and the train station just nearby. Head down to Disneyland early! Was there from 9am to 9pm. Stay for the fireworks at 8.30pm if you like! :)

  46. sixpegs Says:

Don’t think I’m going Disneyland. Heh. Looks ike Ikebukuro is a good area. I’m excited! :D

  47. Kay Says:

I loveeeeeeee Tokyo! I’m sure you will enjoy it too.

Everything there just look so good. aww..
