TICKS! tock. TICKS! tock.

August 25th, 2009 by sixpegs

I went out with Buttons for a nice ramen dinner @ our favourite place.
KEN’S RAMEN!
Buttons is really sweet though,
because he surprised me with my favourite white rose!
A simple one stalk is enough to sweep me off my feet!

I LOVE MY BUTTONS.

?

C

The weekend was rather quiet & peaceful for us.
We bummed around at home and caught movies non stop.
Even our meals were delivered.
I think we’re gradually evolving into stay-home-bummers.
Or better known as ?? & ??.
HAHAHA.

Random picture of Boo, me in my new vest
& Buttons with his super HUGE eraser!

D

Maliboo has been attacked by ticks again.
It’s really upsetting because she actually recovered from it already.
But no idea why they got to her again.
The worse thing is, I’m not exactly good at searching her body for ticks.
To think that I’ve always missed out the paws -
THAT’S WHERE THEY ALWAYS LIKE TO HIDE IN!!!!

Buttons came over to our rescue and helped de-tick Boo.

Look at our horrifying finds!

We found the Queen Tick, which is REALLY REALLY HUGE & DISGUSTING!
It’s really super gross.
At this very moment as I’m blogging about it,
I can actually feel tickles all over me.
G R O S S !

But the real psycho is Buttons.
Look at how happy he is disecting the goddamn tick!

B

Anyway, we really found a lot of ticks on Boo.
And to cut her agony short,
I’ve already sent her for professional deticking services.
She’s gonna lose all her fur again.

(T_T)

I hope she feels better after the treatment.
*heartaches*

Alright on a less-gross & happier note, I bought new stickers!
I’m a huge sucker for cute stationery and stuff.
But this set of stickers are damn fun because we get to “play” with it.

Look at how good Buttons is with his rubber face -
HAHAHA!

A

But I’m super good too!

HURHURHUR.

    yikes. poor maliboo. :(
do u bring her out for walks? perhaps u should try spraying anti flea/tick spray on her legs before taking her out (especially when visiting grassy fields). u can try frontline, it should be helpful.

anyways, where did u buy the stickers from and how much are they? they’re really cute! :)

  2. lydia Says:

    Hi peggy!

Oh dear, I hope it gets better for lil maliboo! Yeah, do use front-line for her! It will definitely lower the risk of “tick-fever” as the frontline actually kills ticks..

Perhaps it’s also time to spring-clean the area too, they could be hiding somewhere else in the house! :(

  3. Jayne Says:

    Eww!!!! Gross ticks

  4. Spinach Says:

    Hi Peggy!
I really lol-ed when i saw Button’s psychotic pic of disecting the ticks. haha.. Very hilarious. =)

Btw, i use Revolution on my dog. Apply it monthly on the back near the neck area, helps to:
    - kill adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching for a month
    - prevents and controls flea infestations
    - prevents heartworm disease
    - treats and controls ear mite infestations
    - treats and controls sarcoptic mange ( i don’t really know what is this though)
    - controls tick infestations
(got these info from the packaging)

I do bring my dog to dog runs and parks, so far no prob, except for 2 occasions when i found dead tick (one on each occasion) on my dog. So i think it is quite effective.
Bought it at $50+ for 3 tubes to last for 3 months.

haha.. i think i sound like a salesperson.
    hee.. hope that helps!

  5. rin Says:

    Hey,
    use GARLIC..
    feed garlic to prevent ticks.
    ticks hates blood with garlic.
    google it..
    Natural – Cheap

  6. Rin Says:

Wooo! I saw a ‘rin’ reader here too! *waves*

=) anyways, pegs! I love ya stickers and the cute expressions you guys made! Love it! Ya, for the dog, it could be the outdoor events that cause her to have ticks, try give her a bath af the outing??

Garlic seems an awful taste for the dog. Cos WZ’s dog dun really like it leh!

  7. hearsay Says:

not sure if its true but i heard that disecting/bursting/squashing the mother tick will actually release the eggs in her, which will eventually grow into ticks. and ticks are really hardy, sounds really cruel but i heard people soaking the ticks in detergent or bleach to kill them. hearsay though.

  8. sixpegs Says:

yes there are lots of eggs in the mother ticks body.
but we didn’t crush it on maliboo la, so should be alright.
my mother soaks the ticks in vinegar to kill them.
it’s really VERY hard to kill them.
and it’s not cruel to me at all. they are really parasites!

  9. sixpegs Says:

    i use frontline for maliboo.
    it’s quite good also initially.
but i got no idea why the ticks come back.
will consider revolution if frontline fails to work again.
    thanks for the suggestion, spinach!

  10. sixpegs Says:

yes jayne dear, it’s super gross!

  11. sixpegs Says:

i bought the sticks from stationery island in jurong point.
    :)
    some korean shop.

i use frontline on maliboo as well.
sigh. still waiting for the month to be up to drip another bottle on her.
    hope it works.
i will consider getting the spray thing.
but what if she licks it up?
she loves to lick her paws.
    what brand is the spray?

  12. Loke Says:

    Hi Peggy,

I really enjoy reading your blog. Keep on blogging.
Anw, can i know what programm you use to put your photos together?
Have been finding software can do that for me.

    Thanks

  13. =D Says:

My dog had a “tick attack” a few weeks back too…I found like 10 ticks around his eyes!! I had to bring him to a groomer to shave off his fur. I was so shock to see all the red marks on his skin, it looked like he was having chicken pox. Now,I am using the Frontline tube and Frontline spray. I also let him eat garlic treats. He didn’t recover immediately, it took about 1 week… Remember to check the place your dog always hang out at..because there might be still ticks hiding behind cupboards or something.

My dog is officially tick-free but botak! =D

  14. NaNa Says:

Poor maliboo. My furkid also gotten ticks quite a long time ago and I used frontline too and also this anti tick shampoo which works really good.

Maybe you wish to get the spray as well and spray it around dark and unseen corners of your room and house and also the bedsheets of his bed and your bed if he sleeps on your bed too.

We must constantly check on their fur n paws for hidden ticks. And yes they are really hard to kill so we use a lighter to burn them. Sounds cruel but definitely not as cruel as them to suck our beloved furkids dry. My bf catches them and puts them in air tight plastic bottles and in 2 days time they all die from suffocation and we just chuck the whole bottle in the rubbish dump lol. To add on, my bf keeps shaking the bottle to make them dizzy hahaha!

  15. yunie Says:

omg.. i’m reading this at 5am and the pics (esp the freaking huge tick) are giving me goosebumps!
how did you realize maliboo has ticks? is she like, constantly scratching herself?

  16. rain Says:

    why white rose babe?
    a lil morbid, haa (:

the stickers-emulated pictures are really cute!
i like your set better (:

  17. Emi Says:

Hey! love your blog. your pup’s pretty cute too :)

btw what wordpress template are u using?

  18. sixpegs Says:

    hello loke, thanks for reading!
i use photoscape to do up the collages.
it’s fast and simple to use.
you can download it and try it out too!

  19. sixpegs Says:

my dog is botak now also boo.
i should try and see if boo eats garlics.
    thanks for the advice!

  20. sixpegs Says:

hahaa i think my boyfriend is more sick lor.
he takes lighter and burn them after he emptied all their guts (that’s if they have guts)!
he’s real bad wicked psycho lor. haha.

    but the ticks deserve it.

  21. sixpegs Says:

    hahaha i’m so sorry yunie.
forced to touch those ticks when i pull them out from maliboo’s skin GROSSES me out even more!
    can you imagine?!
i foudn outshe got ticks because i touched her and felt a bump.
spread her fur apart to see and to my horror, saw ticks!
at that moment, i know we’re FUCKED. T_T

  22. sixpegs Says:

hello rain, no idea why but i just love white roses.
i want them at my wedding and at my funeral next time.

    i like those stickers too!
they’re really adorable! haha fun to play with too!

  23. sixpegs Says:

    thanks emi!
i’m using the “journalist” theme. :)

  24. A random reader Says:

Yup try feeding your dog w garlic but not too much coz it’ll lower e bloodcount or something. So far I read thru forums this is a very effective way.

You can try “Accurate” Fleas n ticks control spray. So far my pup and cat never ever have any fleas or ticks (choy). It’s mild but effective. Can spray anywhere including pet’s area. My pup hasn’t died from licking. So no prob I think. lol.

Can add raw apple cidar vinegar in its water too. Again it’ll prevent ticks. Can also dilute it and spray it on your dog.. Damn cheap n safe. Rem to buy e organic ones. Such a big bottle only cost 6 plus. Can use 1 yr mayb. lol.

Saw from forums they said frontline is very toxic to pets. Im not sure though.

Just to share w ya. And rem to vacuum your house. Have a nice day.

  25. yunie Says:

    hi peggy,

    thanks for replying :)
guess what. my mom found a tick on my dog’s leg today! poor boy.. that area is super red now! coincidentally i read your post this morning.. i’m so freaked out (it’s the 1st time we ever discover this) that i’m gonna bring him to the vet now. argh! damn the ticks!
    get well soon maliboo!

  26. sixpegs Says:

yea my mom read up about the apple cider vinegar also.
but my dog doesn’t like the smell. we did dilute it and rub on her also.
    thanks for your advice! :D

  27. sixpegs Says:

hey yunie! actually no need to go straight to the vet lah.
you can just shave her down, clean your house and do the drips on her and see how things goes lor.
those i found at home are like hard core goddamn big ones already.
so if it’s not that serious for your dog, you can try to salvage the situation first!
hope your doggie feel better soon also! :)

  28. patricia Says:

do you bring maliboo to parks often?
    - you might want to avoid that for now until maliboo recovers. especially those dog run areas in west coast park, pasir ris, east coast… i’m sure there’re tonnes of ticks/fleas lying around.

instead of frontline, you might want to try Revolution? it works really well on my dog, she never gets any ticks/fleas even though we head out often.

it must be really suffering for her, i hope she gets well soon! :)

  29. ABBY Says:

LOL! ii love the sticker photo strips!
& ii hope boo’s not too sad ’bout losing her furs :X

  30. Dionne Says:

    Hey peggy!
Try Flea/ticks bombs to kill all ticks in your room and prevent the lavae from growing into adults. But this requires you to leave your house for at least 2 hours while it smokes your entire house… need to do this to prevent the ticks from gg back to your dog…
My dog is botak now too~

  31. pollie Says:

lol ur rubber faces. so cutes.

  32. rei Says:

where you got the little kawaii cartoon msn emotion display… so cuteee

  33. sixpegs Says:

hey dionne! long time no see! :D
i think the bombs might be very effective but it’s a bit inconvenient for me because i need to go into my room! :(
not that much rooms for me to stay in in my house. haha.
i think i’ll just stick to sprays and killing them one by one if i see them.
but the condition has improved so much already! :D
    thanks!

  34. sixpegs Says:

hello rei! i got them from this shop called stationery island at jurong point. :D

  35. sixpegs Says:

    :p

  36. sixpegs Says:

hey ABBY, i think boo is quite sad. i think she constantly feels cold also, probably still not used to her on furless body. so need to throw on some clothes for her. but other than that, i think she’s coping well! :D

  37. Siyin Says:

hahaha you are really very good with the faces!!
and the queen tick is OMG…haha
