When I was 12…

???????

It’s a rainy Saturday night.
And I really love rainy nights at home.
Slow paced and quiet.
And I’ll always secretly feel glad that I’m not one of those caught in the rain with wet shoes.
I hate having my feet soaked in wet shoes.

I picked up my pen and wrote another entry in my diary earlier.
And it’s always very heartwarming to read my diary entries.
Having something to backtrack your life all the way until when you were 12.
That feeling is amazing – like almost being able to relive that moment.
Everything described felt familiar.
And you always laugh when you realized how much you’ve changed.

When I was 12, I liked this guy in my school.
We sort of “dated”, but please don’t ask me how we dated.
Probably just walked past each others’ classrooms more often back then? Haha.
We were born in the same hospital.
And our birthdays were only 2 days apart.
We used to laugh about how we might have been sleeping next to each other
even when we were barely days old.
It was really sad though, because BockYee passed away earlier this year.
And I only heard about it 2 weeks after his demise through a mutual friend.
It really pains me to see the people around me leaving.

Our ideals for the perfect romantic life is always different.

When you’re 12,
a good boyfriend is one who would leave you
a pager text message at least 3 times a day.
At 15,
that guy probably need to accompany you during recess.
Or walk you home after school.
It’ll be nice if he’s a badass – the more badass he is, the better.
When you reach 18,
perhaps you’d see if he is romantic.
Romance, romance, romance. It’s all about romance.
And you’ve always thought you’re going to marry that guy you were with back then, isn’t it?
Things won’t be so simple once you’re 24.
You’re new in the society. You meet people.
There are so much to a relationship besides candlelit dinners, fresh bouquets and yearly oversea trips.
Does he sleep around? Is he rich? Does he drive a car? Is his watch expensive?

I’ve never wondered if my 12-year-old boyfriend’s watch is branded.
Or whether his daddy owns a factory.
I hope I don’t become a material-hungry bitch.
I don’t want to be.

I guess this is what growing up is all about – making life more complicated and difficult.

Oh well, everybody has been saying about the “prime time” in our lives.
And I wonder when mine will be.
I hope it’s not over yet, of course!
And after my “prime time”, does that mean that it’ll be continuous downfall?
Less money, less beauty, less time from husband, less suitors, less drive for life.
Less everything. Just more cellulite.

It’s just that sudden thought about that special friend
I used to have which made me want to write.
Wherever you are, may there be overflowing happiness.

yinn, camera. i used to use canon ixus 60. but it’s spoilt already. gonna get a new one soon, but i’m gonna stick with canon. like it the best.

thewonderspot, we were indeed more innocent when we were younger. everything is very straightforward and simple. but sadly, we only get it once. and back then, we were all dying to grow up and put on lipstick. sad huh. i always tell my cousins to cherish their secondary school lives. thats the best, isn’t it.

mun chun, live like theres no tomorrow. live like its first paper tomorrow! lol.

Hi there, I juz a reader who loves to juz pop into ur blog… this entry speaks a lot for I could relate to how you feel….

I myself tried rejecting changes of complications and materialism.. but somehow, life juz forces certain reality into people…. how nice it is to be that young carefree girl yet again…

treasure time. treasure loved ones. treasure surroundings.

Nothing stays stagnant in our world… perhaps this is the beauty of it…

    :)

  7. jessie Says:

  10. sixpegs Says:

Stef, I have to agree with you. That the environment sort of mould us into another person altogether. I’m not sure if that’s the beauty of life. But one thing is for sure, we’ve got to learn how to deal with it. And learn how to step back and look at the whole picture once in a while to see what we’ve became? Not easy for sure. But at least we’re aware of it now. Haha. Ain’t that bad yet. Not blinded yet.

jessie, yea it was really sad. From what my friend said, he just passed away in his sleep.

Rin, I just checked your your blog. Weizhong looks the same! Actually come to think about it, you look the same as you were in primary school too :)

hi peggy! i know this is totally unrelated to the post but can you help me answer these 2 burning beauty questions? many thks!

    1. How do you apply eyeliner? With eyes open or closed?

    2. How long can we keep an unopened mascara without it drying?

    2.

  18. tracy Says:

was just web browsing n saw a marilyn monroe t-shirt in this website http://fashionableclothes.blogspot.com/
scroll down to look for it. just thinking u might like it :)

  19. anne, Says:

Hey peggy, this is an absolutely beautiful post =) I used to write diary entries too way back, and it’s always a mixture of feelings reading them-ranging from embarrassment to delight to nostalgia and amusement. But it’s always amazing, like you’ve said, to read them. Cheers to you and keep on writing them, your heartfelt private thoughts that no one’ll get to read except you =)

  20. sixpegs Says:

Hey Shiyuan, I’m different. I’m from Huamin too but I’ve aged! haha. You guys still look very young. ESP YOU GIRL! :D

Fanny, you cute lian la! hahaha. no one would bear to hit you.

Ron, thanks for the recommendation. It’s really a nice song!

siaowen, yea inevitable but true. just have to DEAL WITH IT! :)

thewonderspot, me too. when i was younger, i was dying to grow up! i wanted to wear bras when my mom wanted to get me singlets. hahahaha! if i knew what was in store for me in adulthood, i’d wanna be young all the time.

annie, very random questions but here comes.
i do eyeliner with eyes closed. only the “tail” part – eyes opened. and when apply to the lower lash line – eyes opened too. the mascara one i really got no idea. can’t be helped i guess. maybe storage in the right temperature will lengthen the shelf life? not sure though.

tracy, thanks for thinking of me when you see it. it was really sweet of you.

anne, thanks for your comment. felt happy reading it. :) diaries are really great treasures. only those who write in diaries will understand that kinda emotion gush whenever we flip it open again. hope you’d always keep that habit too, anne. thanks once again. :)
