aunty whines again
November 28th, 2007 by sixpegs
can somebody tell me why time passes so quickly?
the rowers had left us for almost a week.
the exams started almost 3 weeks ago.
hey! gorgeous has been over for a month.
miumiu came back from europe almost six months back.
miumiu was still studying with me in NTU canteen the same time last year.
we met each other for the first time more than 3 years ago.
and i have been in NTU reading engineering for the 4th year now.
6 years since the 911 incident.
it felt like yesterday when the freak accident in cambodia occurred.
headlines reading “5 singaporeans missing in cambodia” splashed across all front pages of local newspapers.
and when i turned up at weizheng, one of the rower’s wake last night, everything felt surreal.
i believe it still came as a shock to a lot of people even though the incident took place almost a week ago.
although i am not a personal friend of weizheng, my heart aches for his passing,
and for his poor mother and family who grieves for his demise.
as i sat there in silence and listened to the conversations made by miumiu and his friends around me,
i realised a very sad truth -
everybody kept saying that we should cherish the people around us.
but we, somehow, will never be able to do it ultimately.
some wished they had not quarreled.
some wished they had known him better.
but undoubtedly, everybody misses him and wished he was still around.
i cannot imagine losing a loved one like that.
you weren’t given a time frame to count down to his/her departure,
you weren’t told, or even hinted that he/she will be leaving,
everything came as a surprise. a really bad one.
i think the agony is really beyond words.
do you still remember who farzana is?
she was on the front pages of almost every local newspaper 7 years ago.
i was in secondary school back then.
but i can still remember how she looks like now.
she was only 18 when she survived the crash of SQ006 in taiwan where 84 lives were lost.
being an air stewardess on board, she felt the responsibility to help all the passengers
and she risked her life to drag others out of the wrecked plane.
leaving herself, suffering burns on 45% of her body.
she looked totally different from how she originally looked.
18 year old beauty, forever scarred.
she was a heroine, forgot about herself and dedicated herself to saving others.
remarkable courage in a young woman.
but do you still remember her?
fortunately, she is still with us now.
and i believe people whose lives have been saved by her will be forever grateful to her.
life is so fragile.
these 5 lives we have lost today…
will we still remember them another 7 years later?
sadly, it always takes another tragedy for us to recollect what we had lost in the previous one.
and i really hope the these 5 outstanding men will always be fondly remembered by the singaporeans.
and being someone who believes in afterlife, i hope they are still happy now.
the 5 of them still together.
things like this made me think about myself.
always complaining about the nitty-gritty things in life.
not having enough money to buy stuff,
not being able to go party because of my exams…
sigh.
we are always so focused on the tiny and unimportant things in life
that we’ll neglect the big picture.
if i were to leave now (choy), frankly, i think i will have SO MANY regrets.
all in all, i just hope everybody is feeling fine!
damm i really am super affected. haha.
on a sidenote, i found a blog where the owner is feeling rather SIMILAR to what i’m feeling now.
www.prince8.wordpress.com
his entry titled “Rest In Peace” is 95% similar to what i wrote few days ago man!
is that plagiarism or what.
as much as i understand how he feels,
STOP TRYING TO BE THE WORM IN MY GUT!
